2024, im 53, heard this song for the 1st time 1980, in Monrovia Liberia !! never knew who sang this until I came to the U.S in 1984. One of my all time favorite songs. I just heard it again. TY Al for a great song and great memories of my childhood.

Holy shit this song is real. I heart it around the time it was on, then forgot about it. Like, totally. Amnesia. This is like a Mandala Effect fever dream from a multiverse memory. The chorus destroyed me, "and take a little piece of Amsterdam." I knew it.

I've loved this song since it came out around 1976. Wonderful, unforgettable teenage years of 14-15 years old. It seems like every time this beautiful song played, whether on the home stereo 8-track or on the car radio, it was a very happy moment never to forget. One was in 1976, my father, my best friend, and me went shopping for a new car for our family. Just remembering all of beautiful cars way back then almost 50 years ago. Test driving fabulous Oldsmobiles, Lincolns, Buicks, Cadillacs, and Mercurys. We ended up buying a 1976 Mercury Marquis Brougham. Beautiful automobile. Everytime a see a picture of one, I get misty eyed, play this song, and think of my late father and mother.😢

Would have been nicer their actual performance was actually playing instead of the actual music from the actual recording of the actual commercial release. I was a senior in HS, had been out to Stone Mtn. partying with a couple friends but had a date with a really hot lookin cool chick that night to see Al Stewart. My older brother and his girlfriend / wife were driving. When we pulled up to pick her up, I was so sick, my sister in law got out to get her. As she walked up to the car (72 yellow Pinto lol) I leaned out of the car and barfed in the parking lot in front of her. Needless to say, the date didn't get off to a great start. Al was great but she didn't like them. Oh well. I remember how good she looked in those jeans.
